The Nursery Day

The Nursery week is divided into ten sessions - 5 morning and 5 afternoon. Parents may decide whether they wish to enrol their child on a full or part-time basis and this may be changed by arrangement, one term in advance, or subject to available places at the time. Before school care is available from 8.15 am and is free of charge. After-school care runs from 3.30 pm to 6.00 pm for those aged 3+ and includes milk and a snack, followed by tea at 5.00 pm.

The children join the Pre-Prep in the September after they turn 3. They spend a year in Kindergarten, which is a little more structured and continue their learning on the Foundation Stage Early Learning Goals, described below.

Early Learning

When children turn 3, they follow the Foundation Stage of the National Curriculum, which has six learning areas, as follows:

  • Personal, social and emotional development;
  • Communication, language and literacy;
  • Mathematical development;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world;
  • Physical development; and
  • Creative development.

Each child's progress is assessed and parents are given regular updates. Individual assessments are then used to set targets for Key Stage I learning.

Nursery Funding Support

Yarlet participates in the Government's Early Learning Credit Scheme. This allows us to claim, on your behalf, a rebate which, for full-time pupils over 3 years of age, will reduce termly fees by over £400. This Scheme is not means-tested and applies to full and part-time pupils.
